“ I started my practice because I believe in innovating new ways of being. I initially envisioned  alternative operating models that would honor all people and their unique talents and capabilities in the workplace. As my work evolved, I engaged in community projects involving local business development, homelessness, affordable housing, local food, and sustainability. My graduate study in Integrative Eco Social Design deepened my desire to connect people to place. I am more aware than ever of our deep disconnect and the disparities that exist in our society as we navigate the global impacts of the pandemic,  climate change, and threats to democracy. New ways are essential for social justice and life sustaining societies to become our norm. My commitment is to continue evolving offerings that enhance our ability to create these shifts. I am a voice for change. I listen deeply, imagine possibilities, and work with you to create the shift you desire. Assisting with your shift and transformation to a new way of being fuels me. Imagine a Shift."

Shifting Perspective

Angela is an outsider. Throughout her life she's been let in, but only temporarily. She knows the consequences of exclusion. Armed with a degree in education and her idealism, she entered the classroom determined to make the world a better place for everyone.  What baffled her was the education system’s resistance to change. There was a barrier there that she was unable to name. It was invisible and impenetrable.

What breaks through a person’s ignorance? What broke through hers was listening to speakers at the conference of the Indigenous Peoples of the Boise Valley.  It was the first time she was in a space where whiteness was not centered. For the first time, she thought of herself as white.  A cacophony of emotions welled up inside. Waves of bewilderment, shame, confusion, insight, understanding crashed throughout the day. Inquiry is her best tool when disoriented. So, she read. The Indigenous Peoples’ History, So You Want To Talk About Race, How To Be An Anti-Racist, We Were Eight Years in Power provided clarity.  Waking Up White and White Fragility transformed shame to remorse. Dr Amanda Kemp’s Racial Justice from the Heart webinars combining mindfulness and racial justice helped navigate the waters of whiteness. Anti-racism learning opportunities provided by local QTBIPOC in her community deepened her study and her culpability.

Completing an online certification through Cornell University on Diversity and Inclusion and Conflict Resolution gave her the foundation needed to build a new career. She facilitates transformation through making the invisible-visible. Dominant culture. In so doing, communities can create culture that manifests integrity, healing, action and justice.

“The trouble is that once you see it, you can't unsee it. And once you've seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. There's no innocence. Either way, you're accountable.”― Arundhati Roy

I did see it. Still do. Everywhere. At my local grocery store, on my tv, in my conversations, at my parish, and when I substituted at an elementary school. No longer innocent, I realize that the community is my classroom now.
